18 Dec 2015 - 23:26

Tehran, Dec 18, IRNA – Tests taken in Iran show that Ghazanfar Roknabadi, the former Iranian ambassador to Beirut, who lost his life in the Hajj stampede near Mecca, Saudi Arabia, died of hot weather and lack of treatment like other Iranian pilgrims, senior Foreign Ministry official said.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs, said on Friday that 14 Iranian pilgrims are still missing following the deadly incident.

Iran is making legal investigation to make Saudi government meet the rights of the families of the victims, Amir-Abdollahian said, adding that some international NGOs have gathered documents to help investigate the disaster.

He noted that all the families of the victims have travelled to Saudi Arabia and undergone DNA tests.

Amir-Abdollahian made it clear that investigations will continue until the bodies of all the missing Iranian pilgrims have been identified.
