Grand ayatollah criticizes silence on killing of Shia muslims

Qom, Dec 15, IRNA – Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani expressed his deep dismay over the killings of Shia Muslims in Pakistan and Nigeria and urged Islamic and international forums to condemns such disasters and take due action to stop them.


Reacting to recent killing of Shia Muslims in Nigeria by the army troops, he said that the Nigerian government instead of killing Boko Haram terrorists is killing the oppressed Shias who bear no threat against any Islamic country.

In the capital Tehran, Foreign Ministry summoned Nigerian charge d'affaires to protest to invasion of a Shia religious site in the city of Zaria by Nigerian army, which left scores of people dead and wounded.

In an attack on the Shia religious site and residence of Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky, leader of Nigerian Shias, in the city of Zaria, tens of people were killed on Sunday morning.
