Iran, Finland keen to expand bilateral ties

Tehran, Oct 27, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi in a meeting with his Finnish counterpart Matti Anttonen in Tehran on Monday called for the further expansion of bilateral ties, especially in economic and trade fields.

Takht Ravanchi while reiterating on cooperation between Tehran and Helsinki and exchange of delegations in all areas, underlined the need for investment and technology transfer as new areas for mutual cooperation.

Finland's Under-Secretary of State for external economic relations Matti Anttonen, for his part, congratulated Iran on the occasion of nuclear agreement with the big powers and the approval of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said, 'Finland is determined to resume economic cooperation with Iran, particularly in the fields of transfer of technology, knowhow and investment in Iranian market.

A trade delegation led by Finnish Under-Secretary of State for external economic relations Matti Anttonen arrived for a four-day visit to Iran on October 25. The delegation comprises eight representatives of different institutions.

The aim of the visit is to find out about the commercial and economic opportunities and to examine the situation concerning financing and transfer of funds in Iran. Another objective of the visit is to tell local Iranian authorities about Finnish export industries and institutions that support foreign trade.

In addition to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Finland Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK, Finpro, Tekes - the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, the Bank of Finland, and Finnvera are represented in the delegation.

The visit will also pave the way for the forthcoming trade mission to Iran by Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Lenita Toivakka in December. Toivakka will be accompanied by a comprehensive business delegation.
