Iran honors National Paralympic Day

Tehran, October 12, The Iran Project – Tens of thousands of children and adolescents with disabilities celebrated the National Paralympic Day at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
The National Paralympic Day was celebrated in a special ceremony attended by tens of thousands of disable children and adolescents, senior sports officials, and the Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Wilfried Lemke at Tehran's Azadi Stadium.





The president of Iran's National Paralympic Committee (NPC), Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, expressed his satisfaction with the commemoration ceremony, calling it an opportunity to make children with disabilities happy.

Saying that Iranian Para-athletes have already won 48 Paralympic quota places for Rio 2016 Paralympics, Khosravi Vafa expressed hope that they will gain 80 places by the end of this year.

The Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Wilfried Lemke, also said that celebrating the national Paralympic day in Iran is a wonderful initiative that should be spread around the world.

Referring to the ceremony, Lemke said this is a major step toward changing the society's attitude towards people with disabilities.
