Despite this, the House action cannot stop the Iran agreement, because of the Senate votes blocking the Republican efforts to dismantle the deal.

With Democrats objecting to adding non-nuclear issues to consideration of the nuclear deal, that procedural vote was 53-45, meaning the measure failed to attract the 60 votes it would need to advance.

The element of McConnell’s proposed amendment relating to Iranian recognition of Israel echoes a measure put forward by Sen.

Reid, however, immediately announced that the Democrats did not want to filibuster, as there already was an understanding that a vote would come Thursday.

“Either way, this debate will continue”, McConnell said on the floor before the vote. “Well if they vote again to deny the American people a final vote, they’ll have a chance to test the theory”.

Isakson reiterated the reasons he opposes the deal: it is appeasement of the Iranian regime and would facilitate Iran’s conventional arms sales in the Middle East; includes secret side agreements between Iran and the global Atomic Energy Agency not disclosed to Congress; and on top of all that, Obama’s negotiators gave away “all leverage to enforce accountability by Iran by releasing existing sanctions and removing the ability to impose sanctions in the future”.

“It’s necessary that Iran receive the message that the U.S.is prepared to destroy any and all capability and facilities without warning or prolonged negotiation”, said Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-CA, who supports the bill along with Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-IL, and Rep. Ryan Zinke, R-MT.
