US Senate Republicans to attempt repeat vote to kill Iran nuclear deal

The US Senate will hold another vote on the resolution to disapprove the Iran deal.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Senate will hold another vote on the resolution to disapprove the Iran nuclear agreement on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the floor of the Senate on Thursday afternoon.

After the vote to consider the resolution disapproving the nuclear agreement was shot down by Democrats, McConnell announced the Senate would reconsider the resolution again before the September 17 final deadline.

The opponents of the Iran nuclear deal were blocked in a 58 to 42 vote.
In a press conference following the agreement, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid stated that holding the vote again on Tuesday would be "a waste of time" and will result in "the same outcome" as the failed Thursday vote.

In May, the Senate and House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation to allow lawmakers to have a final say on the US implementation of the Iran nuclear agreement. The nuclear deal reached with Iran set out to eliminate Tehran’s pathways to a nuclear weapon in exchange for lifting sanctions.
