18 Aug 2015 - 17:02

TEHRAN August 17(Shana)—Kurdistan Petrochemical Plant will become operational in 2016, a senior petrochemical official said.

Marziyeh Shah-Daei, a member of the board of directors at National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said the plant is one of the highly-prioritized petrochemical projects in Iran and is expected to process 300,000t/y of light polyethylene. It will be fed by West Ethylene Pipeline.

Kurdistan Petrochemical Plant is 91% complete and will come on-stream in the first half of 2016, she said.

It is being constructed by an investment of 253 million euros and IRR2,829b.

The plant is one of the numerous petrochemical plants constructed along West Ethylene Pipeline.

Initiated in 2002, the pipeline is to carry ethylene from Assaluyeh, south of Iran, to western provinces of Khuzestan, Lorestan, Chaharmahal Bakhtiari, Kohguiluyeh Boyer Ahmad, Kermanshah, Kurdestan, and West Azerbaijan.

The second phase of West Ethylene Pipeline is close to coming on-stream, Shah-Daei said in April.

The second phase of the pipeline is 585 kilometers, stretching from Kermanshah to Mahabad.
West Ethylene Pipeline has the capacity to carry 3.5 million tons of ethylene.
