Russia-Saudi Arabia: Time for reset

15 Aug 2015 - 14:56

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir visited Moscow, ending a four-year impasse in diplomatic contacts, but differences still remained between both sides over the Syrian conflict and the fate of President Assad.

Nevertheless, bilateral relations have seen quite a surge in the past couple of months, with both sides signing a landmark nuclear energy agreement during the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum in June.

At that time, Saudi Arabia also announced that it would be investing $10 billion into the Russian economy, and just after this week’s summit, Riyadh also proclaimed its interest in purchasing Russian Iskandar missiles in the future.

Armen Oganesyan, Editor in Chief, “International Affairs” magazine (studio guest), Nasser A.Bin Ghait, researcher & former lecturer at Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi branch, Maxim Suchkov, expert at the Russian Council for International relations and Afraa Dagher, Syrian Political Activist commented on the issue.
