Jan 16 (Reuters) - Iran and six world powers will meet on Jan. 28 and 29 for a new round of negotiations over Tehran's disputed nuclear programme, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported on Wednesday.
A diplomat in Vienna, where the U.N. nuclear agency is based, suggested the dates cited by ISNA could be correct. Both the diplomat and ISNA said the venue had yet to be decided.

ISNA did not give a source for its information and said the date could change depending on which location was agreed. It cited Istanbul and Geneva and "some other cities" as possible locations.

The diplomat in the Austrian capital said: "That's what we've heard too (about the late January dates reported by ISNA), still working on the venue."

Western diplomats had hoped for negotiations - last held in June - to resume in December or mid-January in the face of increasing concern that the decade-long nuclear standoff with Iran could trigger a new war in the Middle East.

Russia voiced alarm last week at delays in agreeing a new round of talks on Iran's atomic work, which the West suspects is aimed at developing nuclear weapons. Iran says it is enriching uranium for solely peaceful energy purposes.
