Iranian researchers develop magnetic nano-particles destroying cancer cells

28 Jun 2015 - 15:47

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian researchers at Tehran University have designed a magnetic nano-particle which can act as a good option for cancer treatment.

Using the method, La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 nano-particles were produced by a system known as mechanic Asian and through high thermal operations.

Dr. Abolghasem Ataie, the lead author of the study, said the results of the research can be applied for cancer treatment through hyperthermia method and generating solid oxide fuel cell.

The method creates an alternating magnetic field outside of the patient’s body and raises the temperature of the nano-fiber and the entire texture by 43-44 centigrade, killing cancer cells.

The nano-particles then obtain para-magnetic properties as the temperature rises to 46 centigrade. However, the method does not harm healthy cells but destroys the whole cancer cells.

The results of the study have been published in Materials Characterization Journal
