Royan to establish cell factory

Tehran’s Royan Institute has plans to open a new cell factory for Iranian researchers to grow stem cells in laboratories, to help treat skin and heart diseases and arthritis by replacing damaged cells with healthy ones.

The factory in an area of 1,500 sq m will be opened by the end of the Iranian year (March 20, 2016), said Dr. Hamid Gurabi, institute head, the Persian language ‘Iran’ newspaper reported.

Royan Institute (RI) is a non-government non-profitable organization established in 1991 as a research institute for reproductive medicine and infertility treatment.

In 1998, the institute was approved by the Ministry of Health as a cell-based research center. The institute today leads in stem cell research and is also one of the best clinics for infertility treatment. It has 46 scientific members and 186 lab technicians.

Royan has three research centers, each focused on different aspects of research including, RI Stem Cell Biology and Technology, RI Reproductive Biomedicine and RI Biotechnology.
