'Iraq needs no foreign intervention'

TEHRAN, May 13 (MNA) – President Rouhani asserted that Iraqi nation is a great nation planning for its stability and unity, and will not permit the foreigners to decide for its issues.In his joint press conference with Iraqi President Fouad Massoum, Rouhani said the two countries shared their securities and Iran would help Iraq unconditionally in fighting terrorism and establishing security.

Referring to Iraq as a united great nation, Rouhani underlined Iraqi nation's move towards security and stability, and their will to not allow others to decide for their problems.

Regarding economic ties between Tehran and Baghdad, President Rouhani confirmed that discussions were made on energy, gas, oil and Iran-Iraq connecting highways.

Rouhani and Massoum meanwhile discussed the regional issues of Syria and Yemen. “An urgent real ceasefire has to be established in Yemen as the innocent nation is in dire need of medicine, food supply, and medical aids,” stated Iran’s President. He added, “Yemeni crisis is not a regional and political issue; it is a humanitarian issue for the whole region and world.”

Rouhani also stressed the necessity of fighting terrorism through the region to uproot the phenomenon; “terrorism has to be fought by cooperation and the countries who consider the extremist groups beneficiary to their political aims are in a big mistake.”

On environmental issues, Rouhani and Massoum touched upon the issue of dust pollution and stressed the cooperation to resolve the problem.

Expressing his gratitude for Iran’s support and help in fighting ISIL, Fouad Massoum called the terrorist group 'a threat to all countries in the region' and said all the Iraq is fighting ISIL in unity.

Iraqi President, stressing cooperation grounds, said Iraq is willing to use Iran’s experience in fields of agriculture, industries and road construction.

“On desertification, we need continuous cooperation between Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia to prevent the expansion of deserts,” Massoum added.

Given regional issues, Masoum underlined the common stances of Iran and Iraq on Yemen and Syria, stressing the vitality of preventing foreign intervention.

Iraqi official meanwhile pointed to nuclear talks between Iran and 5+1; “we believe the possible agreement will be beneficiary to all countries of the region as well as the whole world and there is no need for any country to be afraid of the deal.”

Massoum once more appreciated Iran’s support for Iraq and said “I have to thank the brother country’s government and nation for standing by Iraq in any condition.”
