11 May 2015 - 12:58

Tehran, May 11, IRNA - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that there is a chance of closing a deal between the P5+1 group and Tehran on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, Russian news media reported.

“I would like to point out that we have hopeful signals on the Iranian issue. Here the cooperation of states with [UN Security Council] veto, with Germany and Iran has led to a result nonetheless,” Sputniknews quoted Merkel saying during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Sunday.

'We have hope for signing an agreement,' she added.

On April 2, Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers (China, France, Russia, UK, US and Germany) issued a joint statement after marathon talks in Lausanne calling, among other things, for the removal of UNSC sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The statement was read out in a joint press conference in the Swiss city by the EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini, and Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Aaccording to the agreement reached between Iran and the six world powers, Zarif said, all the US, EU and UN Security Council sanctions against Iran will be lifted under the final deal.
