10 May 2015 - 21:42

Tehran, May 10, IRNA – Majlis (parliament) Speaker said on Sunday that support for Iraqi national unity government as a symbol of unity among all ethnics and tribes, including Kurds, Shia and Sunni Muslims is the sole way to contribute to the Iraqi security.

Ali Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with Deputy Secretary General of Iraqi Kurdistan Patriotic Union Barham Salih.

Larijani said that Iran and Iraq have excellent, warm and brotherly relations.

Larijani underlined necessity of joint efforts to help settle problems in Iraq and said that Iran stands by Iraqi people and government and is ready for assistance to the brotherly nation.

Meanwhile, Larijani criticized the western plan to disintegrate Iraq and Syria and said that some western leaders believe in vain that by dividing countries they can solve problems in the region, it is totally wrong.

Iran's policy in Iraq is support for territorial integrity, strengthening unity among all Iraqi groups and that Iraq can solve its problems only through unity and consolidation among different groups in the country.

The speaker expressed deep concern about escalation of terrorism in the region.

Barham Salih, for his part, appreciated Iran's humanitarian assistance and said that Iraqi fighters are determined to stage strong campaign against Daesh.

He added that terrorism and extremism have posed major threat to the region and that terrorism can be uprooted only through cooperation of all regional countries.

Salih said that Iraqi problems could be settled through dialogue and effective characters and groups in Iraq should hold dialogue.

He reaffirmed Iran's pivotal role in providing security and stability in the region and underlined necessity of more consultations between officials of the two countries on bilateral and regional issues.
