4 May 2015 - 16:27

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Mayors of Tehran and Budapest signed an MoU in an official ceremony, making them sister cities.

The MoU is a beginning point for joint cooperation between Iran and Hungary in tourism, economy, energy and culture, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said in the ceremony attended by Budapest Mayor István Tarlós.

“Twin city agreement between cities and capital cities is quite common and strengthens cooperation among cities,” Qalibaf said.

He also called for establishing connection network between major cities and capital cities, adding that the network can make cities closer.

Qalibaf described Tehran as a tourism pole and an Islamic-Shia center, and said Tehran wants to boost its ties with other cities across the world and sign twin city agreements.

Tehran Mayor described Budapest as a key EU city which can help Tehran in investment and technical fields.

Budapest Mayor, István Tarlós, called Iran an important and considerable country, and said “Tehran is a popular capital city in terms of construction and transportation.”

“We will work with Iran closely in urban management, culture, technology and energy,” he said.

He also expressed the hope that the MoU would be implemented soon.
