Iranian parliament speaker stresses expansion of ties with Kuwait

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined expansion of mutual cooperation between Tehran and Kuwait City in different areas, specially parliamentary and economic fields.

"I hope that the two countries' relations in parliamentary and economic areas will be expanded," Larijani told reporters upon his arrival in Kuwait City on Monday night.


Larijani is on a two-day official visit to Kuwait at the invitation of his Kuwait counterpart Marzouq Al-Ghanim.


The Iranian parliament speaker pointed to Iran-Kuwait relations, and said, Kuwait is our friend and neighbor and the two countries' friendship is rooted in the history.


"Kuwait has become an important country in recent years and it has always played a pacifying role in the region," Larijani said.


The Iranian parliament speaker will depart for Qatar to meet senior Qatari officials in there after ending his visit to Kuwait.


Iran and Kuwait have sought to expand bilateral ties through exchanging several high-ranking delegations in the last few years.
