Tehran, March 2, IRNA – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali-Akbar Salehi and US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz began technical nuclear negotiations in Montreux, Switzerland on Monday evening.

The two top nuclear physicians of Iran and the US first attended a meeting in the previous round of negotiations in Geneva last week.

Salehi and Moniz attended the talks upon a request by foreign ministers of Iran and the US.

Deputy foreign ministers of Iran and the US accompanied by deputy EU foreign policy chief resumed nuclear talks in Montreux, Switzerland earlier Monday in the Swiss city.

Iranian deputies of foreign minister Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht-e Ravanchi, their US counterpart Wendy Sherman and Federica Mogherini's deputy Helga Schmid are seeking to narrow the gap as Iran and the six world governments are aiming to reach a political understanding by the end of March in the run-up to a comprehensive deal by a self-imposed June 30 deadline.

IRNA reporter in Geneva said that Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry are scheduled to leave Geneva for Montreux to join the talks.

President Hassan Rouhani's special aide Hossein Fereydoun is due to attend the Montreux round of negotiations, as he did in the previous round of talks in Geneva.

On Thursday, negotiations will be held between Iran and all the six members of the P5+1 – the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany.
