New York, Feb 18, IRNA – Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN Gholamali Khoshrou stressed that progress of world nations depends on international cooperation and understanding.

Khoshrou made the remarks while speaking to IRNA after he handed over his credentials to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

He said having continuous cooperation with other countries, particularly with developing states, is a must for easing economic pressures.

Khoshrou referred to the United Nations as an “important platform” for international interactions among world countries especially in the fields of educational and environmental activities.

Touching upon the issue of Islamophobia, the diplomat said extremism and terrorism have accelerated negative sentiments against Islam.

Those who burn people alive or behead them in the region in the name of Islam are adding fuel to the fire of Islamophobia and are led from a single certain source.

Islam is a religion of compassion based on peace and human dignity. This is a duty for all Muslims to introduce the true image of Islam to the international community, Khoshrou added.
