Baghdad, Feb 17, IRNA – Visiting Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Monday that Iran has taken steps to exchange views with Saudi Arabia as a major regional country.

The Iranian diplomat made the remarks while commenting on Tehran’s position towards Riyadh as an influential player in the region.

He said both capitals are optimistic about future of their relations and have admitted that the two countries enjoy enormous potentials to help regional countries overcome terrorist threats.

Amirabdollahian added that terrorism is the most important problem of the region.

He referred to the weak or incompetent governments in the region as the basic problem on the way of eradicating terrorism from the region.

There are some parties trying to intensify regional problems by accelerating ethnic, religious or tribal conflicts under the excuse of terrorism, said the Iranian diplomat.

He stressed that lack of effective cooperation among regional countries as well as weakness of certain regional states were key factors leading to a security and political gap in western Asia.

Amirabdollahian regretted that certain regional countries are linked to the Tekfiri and terrorist groups which are in turn working with some intelligence services out of the region.

According to the Iranian diplomat, such a situation has become a problem for regional security, stability and peace.

The only way out of the present security crisis in the region is to mobilize and believe in the capabilities of the regional countries, pursuing a collective and political approach to solve the problem and avoiding military solutions, said the diplomat.

He added that extremism and violence would benefit no regional state.

Amirabdollahian also stressed that preventing foreign interference in the regional affairs is a key factor in overcoming current security crisis in the region.

The Iranian diplomat reiterated support for regional countries including Iraq and Syria, in their fight against any form of terrorism and said Tehran would help any other country solve its problems in dealing with the dilemma whether in the region or anywhere else in the globe.
