Iran seeking Germany's expertise in climatology, water management

2 Feb 2015 - 15:09

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian energy official called for Germany's cooperation in climatology and also upgrading productivity in water resources management.
Iran's Deputy Energy Minister Rahim Meydani made the remarks in a meeting with German Ambassador to Iran Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg in Tehran on Monday.

"In view of the special status of Iran's water resources in recent years and the change in climate, drought and rising temperature, we are interested to usher in new cooperation with Germany in different water sectors, specially management of subterranean waters," Meydani said during the meeting today.

He reiterated that water management is a modern branch of science and all countries need to share experiences in this field.

The German ambassador, for his part, reiterated that water and environment play a crucial role in the future of the countries, and said, "Water is a substance that is constantly diminishing and it cannot be replaced like other energies, specially in a country like Iran where water is of crucial importance."

Last month, a senior lawmaker reiterated that Iranian and German officials have stressed their resolve not to miss the existing opportunities for the promotion of their all-out ties.

"The two countries have adopted positive stances towards each other in the past months," Head of Iran-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group Javad Heravi said.

Germany was Iran's largest trade partner before the imposition of the US-led unilateral sanctions against Iran outside the framework of the UN Security Council.

In a meeting in June, Iranian and German officials explored new ways for expanding Tehran-Berlin ties, and vowed to do their best to pave the way for the enhancement of German companies' investment in Iran.

In a meeting between a representative of Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and Director-General for foreign investment office of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran (OIETAI) Abolfazl Koudeie, the two sides welcomed the German private companies' investment in Iran.

The German official called for promoting cooperation between the two countries in various fields with respect to their vast potentials.

Koudeie, for his part, reiterated that the time was ripe for presence of foreign companies in Iran aimed at singing investment agreements.
