German parliamentary delegation to visit Iran

22 Jan 2015 - 17:16

TEHRAN (FNA)- A German parliamentary delegation is due to visit Iran in the near future.
German Vice-Speaker Claudia Roth will lead the parliamentary delegation to Tehran and Tabriz for a five-day visit, according to Roth's personal website.

During the visit, the delegation will hold meetings with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his deputy Mohammed Hassan Aboutourabi Fard, Iranian Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Moulaverdi and Iranian Vice-President and Head of the Environmental Organization Ma'soumeh Ebtekar.

The prominent Green lawmaker will also meet with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe and American Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi and legislators representing religious minorities as well as civic representatives.

The trip is aimed at deepening parliamentary ties and further stressing Iran's regional importance in the violence-stricken Mideast, Roth was quoted saying.

Germany is among the world powers which are in nuclear negotiations with Iran and has sought to develop its ties with Tehran despite sanctions. The European country was Iran's largest trade partner before the imposition of the US-led unilateral sanctions against Iran outside the framework of the UN Security Council.

In a meeting in June, Iranian and German officials explored new ways for expanding Tehran-Berlin ties, and vowed to do their best to pave the way for the enhancement of German companies' investment in Iran.

In a meeting between a representative of Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and Director-General for foreign investment office of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran (OIETAI) Abolfazl Koudeie, the two sides welcomed the German private companies' investment in Iran.

The German official called for promoting cooperation between the two countries in various fields with respect to their vast potentials.

Koudeie, for his part, reiterated that the time was ripe for presence of foreign companies in Iran aimed at singing investment agreements.
