TEHRAN, Jan. 20 (MNA) – Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission spokesman has said the US has recently played a role of good and bad cop.
Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini who was speaking via phone call to ‘The Text of the Margin’ aired by Iran’s state TV Channel 3 talked about the draft of the Parliament which would mandate 60 per cent enrichment of uranium; “we have seen very contradictory behavior by the US administration and the Congress; once they were pro-negotiation and agreement; however, other times, under the overwhelming impact of the Zionist lobby, they resorted to threats that they would spare no option in containing Iran’s power, putting now and then so-called options on the table,” he told the program.


Asked why the parliament prepared the draft of the legislation mandating 60-per cent enrichment, and whether it was a response to sanctions by the US Congress, Naqavi Hosseini said that Parliament prepared the draft on the promise that the US would not welcome a deal and that they would adopt a policy of buying time, using carrot-and-stick approach to advance their interests; “draft was prepared according to assessments made in the Parliament of country’s industrial demand for enriched uranium, and signed by 200 parliamentarians; collecting signatures was a long process, and with approaching to Geneva Joint Plan of Action, Parliament concluded that a deal would be accessible,” Naqavi Hosseini told the program. “These issues along with US general abandoning of their threats, the draft fell to abeyance, turning the tide in the direction of supporting negotiators in the road to a deal,” he asserted.


“The draft was still in agenda, which went on the table when the US tone changed the situation for the worse,” he added. In response to a question whether the draft would pose barriers in the path of negotiations toward a deal, Commission spokesman said that US officials had adopted a good and bad cop routine recently; “Congress has its own stick and the White House with a carrot advance their national interests; the draft was meant to retaliate on the Congress,” Naqavi Hosseini told to program.


On Iran’s capability to handle 60-per cent enrichment plan, Naqavi Hosseini said that it was a long-term objective; “currently, the nuclear committee advances the plan according to the necessities of present conditions,” he said.


About his evaluation of the nuclear negotiations, Naqavi Hosseini told the program that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly believed that nuclear dossier had no other solution than negotiation, and that “our nations would not give in to the pressures , sanctions and threats.”


“The government should not put all its eggs on the negotiations basket, thus tailoring economic, political, and cultural conditions to negotiations; this is not a wise policy and not to the interest of the country as well,” proposed the Commission spokesman, recommending the indigenous power and Resistance Economy as the ultimate way out of the difficult situation.


Naqavi Hosseini also recommended the government not to involve unnecessarily on the US domestic politics, thus avoiding effectively a trap lying ahead.
