Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi, Jan 8, IRNA – The number of foreign tourists coming to Iran for medical treatment will reach 500,000 annually, a senior official with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education said on Thursday.

Jalal Naeli, Health Ministry director for the department of economic cooperation made the remarks in his speech to a conference on health tourism in Mashhad, the capital city of the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi.

Naeli said the number of heath tourists coming for medical treatment is not accurate since most of them arrive in the country on tourism agenda and then receive medical services as well.

It is estimated that between 150,000 to 200,000 health tourists come to Iran annually, Naeli said, adding that the figure is expected to rise to 500,000 a year.
