University students to require environmental credits

8 Jan 2015 - 15:06

Under a new letter of understanding between the Ministry of Science and the Department of the Environment, all university majors will have to take four credits in environmental studies. The credits also need to be fulfilled by graduate students.
The head of Tehran University’s environmental studies faculty announced that according to a new directive adopted by the Tehran University planning council in December, environmental studies courses will now be offered for all students at different levels of their study.

The Mehr News Agency reports that Abdolreza Karbasi maintained that the new directive is aimed at drawing attention to the importance of environmental issues and making sure that all university graduates are familiar with them.

Karbasi said university graduates are the future leaders of the country and the new directive will be a way of making environmental issues a top priority in all decisions.

The directive will be implemented at Tehran University for now, which has 23,000 undergraduate students and 12,000 graduate students.

Karbasi added that graduate students in the Environmental Studies program are cooperating with the Ministry of Education in order to bring environmental awareness to the country’s schools.
