Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani says the Palestinian issue remains a priority for the Islamic Republic.
Speaking to members of Palestinian factions in the Lebanese capital city of Beirut on Monday, Larijani stressed that Iran has always backed unity among Muslims.

Iran would proceed with its practical support for the Palestinian people, he added.

Over the past decades Israel has sought to change the demographic makeup of al-Quds by constructing illegal settlements, destroying historical sites and expelling the local Palestinian population.

Palestinians are seeking to create an independent state on the territories of the West Bank, East al-Quds (Jerusalem), and the besieged Gaza Strip and are demanding that Israel withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement on November 30, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the occupation of Palestine and the ongoing organized and inhumane crimes against the Palestinian people by the Israeli regime are the origin of instability and insecurity in the world.

Larijani arrived in Beirut on Monday on the second leg of his four-day regional tour which will also take him to Iraq. On Sunday, he visited Syria and held talks with senior officials of the country.
