Iran, FAO underline enhancement of mutual cooperation

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Agricultural Jihad Minister Mahmoud Hojjati and Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to Tehran Serge Nakouzi discussed the new farming and irrigation methods the country should utilize to boost its agricultural products.
“Iran is facing water shortage which certainly affects the country’s agriculture sector. We need to cooperate with FAO to get access to the latest achievements in this regard,” the Iranian minister said at a meeting here with Nakouzi on Saturday.

Nakouzi, for his part, said FAO is looking for a comprehensive plan to expand cooperation and eliminate drought and overcome the problem of limited water resources in Iran.

FAO is a subsidiary of the United Nations (UN) and its main objective is to achieve food security for all to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives.

FAO’s three main goals are the eradication of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition; the elimination of poverty and the driving forward of economic and social progress for all; and, the sustainable management and utilization of natural resources, including land, water, air, climate and genetic resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
