A deputy to Iran’s foreign minister says senior officials from the Islamic Republic, the United States and the European Union will hold a trilateral meeting in Vienna on October 15.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said on Friday that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, US Secretary of State John Kerry, and the EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, will meet in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on October 14.
“There is a possibility that the [nuclear] talks would be extended,” said Araqchi, who is a senior Iranian nuclear negotiator.
He stated that the negotiations will focus on the removal of sanctions against Tehran and the continuation of uranium enrichment, also expressing hope that ground will be prepared for the settlement of outstanding issues between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.

“The time is passing swiftly,” the Iranian diplomat said, adding that there is still hope that the talks will achieve the desired result by November 24.

Araqchi, however, pointed out that if desirable results were not achieved during the upcoming round of talks, then the negotiating sides would definitely fail to strike a final deal by the November deadline.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister underlined the determination of both sides to continue the negotiations and called on the West to seize the existing opportunity to find an appropriate solution.

Iran and the P5+1 group of countries – Russia, China, Britain, France, the United States and Germany – wrapped up the latest round of nuclear discussions in New York late September.

The two sides are currently working to reach a final agreement aimed at ending the longstanding dispute over Tehran’s civilian nuclear work as the November 24 deadline approaches.
