Mideast crises to blame on US support for terror: Iran MP

The US and its Middle East allies, who have long supported terrorist groups operating in Syria, are to blame for the current chaotic situation plaguing Iraq and Syria, an Iranian lawmaker says.
“By supporting acts of terrorism in Syria since four years ago, the US and its allies in the region have paved the way for the emergence of the status quo” in the Middle East, said Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Majlis, Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

The Iranian legislator made the comments in a meeting with Dominique de Villepin, a former French prime minister and foreign minister, in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday.

Boroujerdi further described the formation of the US-led coalition against ISIL terrorists as a mere “show” and said Washington and its allies are not “sincere and serious enough” in the fight against the Takfiri group wreaking havoc on Iraq and Syria.

The former French premier, in turn, voiced concern over the atrocities perpetrated by the ISIL extremists, highlighting Iran’s significant role in the restoration of peace and stability to the troubled region.

The ISIL terrorists currently control large swathes of territory across Syria and Iraq. They have committed heinous atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and beheadings of people.

Since late September the US along with its Western and regional allies have been conducting airstrikes against the ISIL inside Syria, without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate. The US started its airstrikes on Iraq in August.

A few countries in the so-called US-led coalition against ISIL including Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, have been supporting the terrorist group.

Meanwhile the US has been spearheading a campaign in backing militant groups fighting the Syrian government since 2011.
