Iran stands 5th in 17th Asian Games in Incheon

Tehran, Oct 4, IRNA – Iran with 57 medals, including 21 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze, finished 5th in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, on Saturday.
Following the last competitions held prior to the closing ceremony, China with 343 medals, including 151 gold, 108 silver, and 83 bronze, topped the list, followed by the host, South Korea, that reserved the second place with 234 medals, including 79 gold, 71 silver, and 84 bronze, and Japan with 200 medals, including 47 gold, 76 silver, and 77 bronze.
Kazakhstan preceded Iran in the ranking list with 84 medals, including 28 gold, 23 silver and 33 bronze.

The sixth through 10th places were taken by Thailand with 12 golds, North Korea with 11 golds, India with 11 golds, China Taipei with 10 golds and Qatar with 10 golds respectively.

A total of 9,500 athletes from 45 countries took part in 17th Asian Games, during which 14 world records were registered and more than 40 records of Asian games were broken. 37 countries won medals and eight countries finished without receiving any medals.

The 18th Asian games will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2018.
