Iran doubts spies in IAEA: Envoy

4 Oct 2014 - 18:33

TEHRAN, Oct. 04 (MNA) – Iran’s representative to the UN has said the Islamic Republic doubts spies are among IAEA members.

Reza Najafi told Mehr news that Deputy Director-General and Head of the Department of Safeguards of the IAEA Tero Varjoranta and an IAEA delegation will arrive in Tehran by next week for expert-level talks on Iran nuclear issue.

Najafi criticized the UN nuclear watchdog for failing to protect classified information on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program. “While Iran and the IAEA were scheduling any future meetings, Reuters published that IAEA envoy would visit Iran for expert-level talks on Tehran nuclear issue and this adds to doubts on espionage at IAEA,” added Najafi.

Several Iranian nuclear experts were assassinated and targeted few years ago and there are assessments that secret information on victims might have been leaked from IAEA information on Iran's nuclear program.

Iranian nuclear negotiators had recently held new rounds of talks with the 5+1 group on the sidelines of 69th UN General Assembly in New York.
