Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran is ready to take serious steps to develop relations between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
The Joint session of ASEAN and ECO was held in New York on Thursday afternoon (local time) on the sidelines of UN General Assembly meetings. Islamic Republic of Iran and Malaysia co-chaired the session.

Zarif and his Malaysian counterpart Anifah Aman referred to many capacities of the member countries and called for more convergence and cooperation between the two organizations.

ECO has 10 members which are: Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.

ASEAN includes Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Kambodia, and Bangladesh.
