Terrorists fighting on US behalf in Mideast: Iran cmdr.

26 Sep 2014 - 12:27

The terrorist groups that are wreaking havoc on some Middle Eastern countries are in fact fighting Washington’s proxy war in the strategic region, a high-ranking Iranian army commander says.
“The United States and other powers have put proxy wars on their agenda and terrorist groups are fighting on their behalf in the [Middle East] region,” Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said on Friday.

The senior general also said the terrorist groups operating in the Middle East pursue the goal of tainting the image of Islam and creating rifts among Shia and Sunni Muslims.

Pourdastan further described the Islamic Republic as a “superpower” in the Middle East, stressing that Iranian Armed Forces are closely monitoring all enemy moves and will not be caught off guard by them.

In recent months, Iraq and Syria have witnessed a spike in terror operations by foreign-backed Takfiri terrorists, particularly the ISIL militants.

Having taken control of parts of Syria, the ISIL terrorist group sent its militants into neighboring Iraq in early June and quickly seized large swathes of the territory there.

The foreign-sponsored Takfiri militant group has terrorized various communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians, in their advances in the two neighboring Arab states.

The ISIL Takfiris have also claimed the formation of a so-called Islamic caliphate or state and declared the terrorist group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as “the caliph” and “leader of Muslims everywhere.”
