Iran strongly supports al-Ebadi’s appointment: Zarif

BAGHDAD, Aug. 24 (MNA) – Iran’s FM has said the Islamic Republic strongly supports appointment of new Iraqi Prime Minister al-Ebadi.

Zarif, who arrived in Iraq on Sunday for a two-day visit, hailed Shia Grand Ayatollah and all Iraqi groups for supporting Iraq’s newly appointed PM, Heidar al-Ebadi.


“Terrorism is a world problem and all countries' cooperation is needed to eradicate it” said Zarif and expressed joy that Shia Grand Ayatollah is constraining Takfirist terrorist movement.


He further presented Iran’s support for resolving terrorism problem in Iraq and emphasized that Iraqi people are able to fight against terrorism.


Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has traveled to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, for talks with top Iraqi officials.


Upon arrival at Baghdad's international airport, Zarif was welcomed by his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari.


The Iranian minister is scheduled to meet with a number of Iraq’s high-ranking officials including President Fouad Massoum, Prime Minister-designate Heider al-Ebadi, outgoing Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri.
