Official: News on Iran-US talks on Iraq PM appointment false

14 Aug 2014 - 13:21

Tehran, Aug 14, IRNA – Reuters? news item on negotiations between Iran and United States on appointment of the new Iraqi prime minister is false news; an Iranian Foreign Ministry official said early Thursday morning.
The Foreign Ministry official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that this is not the first time that the Reuters news agency is fabricating a news item about Iran, adding, ?The news item in question is totally baseless and a sheer lie.?
?The Islamic Republic of Iran, as it has many times already announced, considers the appointment of officials in Iraq only within the framework of that country?s Constitution and the Iraqi nation?s will and the internal political procedures of Iraq,? he said.

He added that Iran, therefore, is opposed to any type of foreign interference in the internal affairs of Iraq.

That is while Iran?s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamene?ie had said on Wednesday that nuclear talks with world powers would continue, adding that there was no point in holding negotiations with the United States on other issues.

?There are no benefits in having relations or negotiations with the United States, except in certain specific cases,? Ayatollah Khamene?ie said in a message to a gathering of Iranian diplomats.
