Gaza blast leaves several dead during attempt to disable Israeli missile

An unexploded Israeli missile in Gaza went off as bomb experts were attempting to diffuse, it leaving five people dead, including an Italian Associated Press journalist, on the last day of a 72-hour truce.

The deadly incident in the northern town of Beit Lahiya occured on Wednesday as Israeli and Palestinian negotiators in Cairo tried to thrash out a more permanent end to more than a month of violence, ahead midnight deadline.

The missile detonated as bomb squad officers were trying to dismantle it, killing at least five and wounding another five, three of them critically, Kamal Adwan hospital spokesman Muayin al-Masri told AFP. An interior ministry spokesman, Iyad al-Buzam, said a foreign journalist was among those killed.
