Iraq’s State of Law Coalition has renewed its commitment to the nomination of incumbent Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as its only candidate to become Iraq’s next premier, Press TV reports.
The coalition named Maliki as its nominee for the post on Monday.

Saad al-Mutalibi, a member of parliament from the State of Law, told a Press TV correspondent that the National Iraqi Alliance had failed to agree on a single candidate, which means the State of Law is most likely to form the next government.
The National Alliance “until now, hasn’t decided or hasn’t discussed the issue of choosing a representative or a prime minister … since the president of Iraq hasn’t asked the largest bloc to nominate or to form the government. We are waiting for the president to ask the largest bloc,” Mutalibi said.
Iraqi political parties must agree on a candidate for the post of prime minister amid the country’s struggle to defeat a deadly militancy led by Takfiri terrorists.

The Takfiri militants took control of Mosul in a lightning advance on June 10, which was followed by the fall of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital Baghdad.

The militants have since been controlling some areas in northern and northwestern Iraq, and have committed many atrocities in these areas.

Soldiers of the Iraqi army have been engaged in heavy fighting with the militants on different fronts and have so far been able to push them back in several areas.
