Iran Greco-Roman wrestlers claim 2 medals in Poland

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers have displayed their skills and strength at the 57th edition of the International Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées (FILA) tournament “W?adys?aw Pytlasi?ski's Memorial” in Poland, picking up two medals.
On Sunday, five-time world champion Hamid Sourian overcame Lithuania’s Edgaras Venckaitis 5-0 in his opening round contest of men’s 66-kg weight category at the Sports Hall of the city of Gda?sk, located approximately 350 kilometers (217 miles) north of the capital Warsaw.

The 28-year-old prevailed over his Polish rival Edgar Melkumov 7-0 in the next to march into the semifinal round.

Sourian defeated another Polish wrestler Michal Kosla by 8 points to 2 in the semifinal, and booked the ticket for the final.

He downed his Croatian opponent Dominik Etlinger 2-0 in the last encounter and collected the gold medal.

In the 85-kilogram category, Iran’s Mojtaba Karimfar lost to Melonin Noumonvi from France 4-2 and claimed a silver medal.

The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler had earlier defeated Russian opponent Movsar Duguchev 6-0, Germany’s Denis Kudla 3-1, and Belarusian rival Javid Hamazatau 8-0 in his march to the final.

The 57th edition of the International FILA tournament “W?adys?aw Pytlasi?ski's Memorial” opened in the Polish city of Gda?sk on July 18 and wrapped up on July 20.

Dozens of Greco-Roman wrestlers from fourteen different countries, including Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Georgia, Iran, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia and Ukraine, took part in the tournament.
