ISIL brutal acts in Iraq ring alarm bells for regional security: Iran’s security chief

12 Jun 2014 - 1:29

TEHRAN –A top Iranian security official says the brutal acts by ISIL terrorists in Iraq are an “alarm bell” for regional security and called on the international community to take serious action against the group.
Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks in a meeting with the Syrian ambassador in Tehran Adnan Mehmoud on Wednesday.

Shamkhani also said the successful holding of presidential election in Syria allayed the sufferings of the people in the country, robbed the opportunity from those who seek to find pretexts to create crisis in the Syria, and also came as a great defeat for terrorist groups and their supporters.

He also said “the viral reproduction of terrorism” in the region is a result of those who wrongly supported terrorists.

The top security official predicted that those who support terrorists will not remain safe from the fire of terrorism.

“The continuation of this mistake will cause their supporters to be affected” as well, he noted.

ISIL, which is battling to control a huge area of east Syria and western Iraq, has advanced along the Euphrates River in the oil producing Deir al-Zor province, driving back militants from al Qaeda's Nusra Front and other militant brigades.
