Tehran's conference sheds light on Palestinian cause

25 Feb 2017 - 15:26

February 25, The Iran Project - The international gathering held in solidarity with the people of Palestine has been wrapped up in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Feb 22.

Hundreds of foreign guests, including senior Palestinian leaders and officials of Muslim nations, took part in the two-day event.

The annual event, dubbed the 6th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada (Uprising), continued for a second in Tehran with the motto of “Together Supporting Palestine.”

The event saught to show solidarity with the Palestinians in the face of Israeli occupation and expansion of Jewish settlement in their lands.

The Tehran conference opened on Tuesday (Feb 21) with a brief address by Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, who was the chairman, during which he referred to the Israeli regime’s increased activity to rally several regional states around itself and against Iran.

The summit was then officially inaugurated with an address by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei which described the oppressive occupation of Palestine is a dirty page of history.

The Palestine conference provoked wide reactions among the international media, the Israelis in particular, which mostly focused on the statements of Ayatollah Khamenei at the opening ceremony.

Source of Unity

Addressing the gathering, Supreme Leader said all Muslim countries have a responsibility to support Palestinian resistance, which should be a source of unity in the Islamic world.

“Despite the differences that exist among Islamic countries -- some of these differences are natural, some originate from the enemy’s plot and the rest are because of negligence -- the issue of Palestine can and should be the pivot of unity for all Islamic countries,” he said.

Cancerous Tumor

“This cancerous tumor, since its start, has grown incrementally and its treatment must be incremental too,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated in the conference.

“Multiple intifadas and continuous resistance have succeeded in achieving very important incremental goals.

“It continues to advance towards its other objectives, ultimately the complete liberation of Palestine,” he added.

 Resistance Vital

The Wednesday round started with a speech by Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani, who underlined the importance of resistance against Israeli occupation.

He said if Muslims and all those fighting the suppression “are looking towards the West, specifically the United States, to help the Palestinian cause, they are mistaken. It will never happen.”

Fight Against Terrorism

On Wednesday, several representatives from Asian and African nations held meetings with the Iranian president for talks about the conference and the bilateral relations with Iran.

In a meeting with Speaker of Jordan's House of Representatives Atef Tarawneh, President Rouhani highlighted the role that Jordan can play in “thwarting the plots hatched” against the region and in protecting regional security and stability.

He also emphasized the need for supporting Iraq and Syria in the fight against terrorism, and for settlement of the regional conflicts via political approaches with the help of its own people.

In another meeting with Speaker of Lebanon's Parliament Nabih Berri, the Iranian president hailed close cooperation between Tehran and Beirut in the war on terrorism, saying Syria’s Damascus would have become the capital of the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group without such interaction.

President Rouhani later had a meeting with Pandikar Amin bin Haji Mulia, speaker of the lower house of the Parliament of Malaysia.

Stressing the need for “constructive interaction” between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur on Muslim world’s affairs, the Iranian president said Malaysia is expected to play a more supportive role when it comes to the issue of Palestine.

Painful Scar

In an address to the concluding session of conference, President Rouhani said on Wednesday that Palestine issue has annoyed the world community’s conscience for more than 70 years.

The president said that once again the Palestine issue 'brought us together' to speak of a deep and painful scar that has annoyed the global community conscience and the Muslim world body.

Liberation of Palestine

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri was the first foreign guest to give an address, during which he reaffirmed Baghdad’s support for the Palestinian cause of liberation from Israeli occupation and the rights of the Palestinian people.

He added that all Muslim countries should help Palestine “get up on its feet and become strong” as a state, condemning Israel for failing to abide by UN resolutions.

Whiteout doubt, the prestigious conference would play a key role to show of solidarity with the oppressed nation in the face of Israeli occupation and atrocities.

Palestinians are the most persecuted people who have been denied their “identity, truth, history, sovereign rights, and lands”, and finally the Western countries would come up to this realization that they cannot stand it anymore.
